Dr. Claudia Legarreta

Dr. Legarreta received her B.A. in Psychology, with a minor in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin. While attending the University of Texas, she was a research assistant at the Children’s Research Laboratory where she collaborated on various research projects examining the development of cognitive and intellectual ability of children and parent-infant interaction. While at UT, Dr. Legarreta participated in a diplomatic internship at the American Embassy in Mexico City where she had the privilege of working with two US Ambassadors. Her diplomatic internship allowed her a tremendous opportunity to be immersed in not only a bi-lingual education but a bi-cultural social exploration.

Dr. Legarreta continued her education at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and earned her Master’s degree in Counseling. While attending St. Edward’s University she had the opportunity of interning at Safeplace, a domestic violence and sexual survival center in Austin, Texas. It is here that her passion for working with children began. 

Dr. Legarreta received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas and was a member of the Chi Sigma Iota honor society. While at St. Mary's, Dr. Legarreta completed her licensure requirements for the Texas State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and passed the National Counseling Examination.  

While writing her dissertation, Dr. Legarreta realized her passion for working in a relational cultural framework and decided to begin her work in private practice.  

As part of her professional development, Dr. Legarreta is a clinical member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Texas Counseling Association (TCA).
